Columbia Area Family Events in May

In addition to the all the regular free family fun around Columbia, MO, there are a few special events happening this month in CoMo that I wanted to give you a heads up on. For fun activities every day, check out our family activities calendar and page.

May 3rd: When the library opens at nine, call 573.443.3161 to register for special children’s programs. These one time themed activities are a hit with kids and require pre-registration.  Stories in Art, Art in Stories is Saturday, May 14, 2011  from 3-3:45 p.m. Favorite children’s books inspire this program full of active listening, looking, imagining and creating for ages 4-9. Merry Men and Women of Sherwood happens Monday, May 16, 2011 from 7-8 p.m for ages 8-12. This is a celebration of all things Robin Hood and medieval costumes are encouraged. Planting the Seeds Parent/Child Workshop Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 7-8 p.m. is a chance for families to learn about growing food at home using container gardens. It aims to get your children more excited about nutritious eating.

 

May 6th: MegaMind! Okay, this really isn’t free. But the outdoor movies at Flat Branch Park are a blast and it is free for kids 8 and under. You’ll only pay $2 per person for older kids and adults. Bring a blanket or low lawn chair. Concessions available; no rain dates.

 

May 14th: It’s time again for the KMOS Kids Fun Day! This free event moves to the Holiday Inn Expo center this year. From 10am-3pm,  kids from pre-school to eight years old along with their parents or other accompanying adult can enjoy this literacy-based, day of fun. There will be interactive learning centers designed around the concepts of PBS family viewing, reading, and hands-on experiences. Clifford the Big Red Dog, Sid the Science Kid, Curious George, Super Why and Word Girl will make special appearances and each child will go home with a free children’s book and other educational and entertaining items.

 

May 18th: It’s Family Fun Fest time! This month the fest celebrates Bike, Walk and Wheel Week. Learn about ways to stay fit through interactive games and activities. The fun takes place from 6pm to 8pm at Flat Branch park.
