Last week I packed my girls up and headed to St. Louis for a preview show at the newly refurbished Delta Dental Theater. When I posted on Facebook that I was there, the memories of visiting as a kid poured in. Rest assured that the giant teeth are still there. And the show still had a focus on healthy dental habits (they do a great demonstration of brushing and flossing.) But they have also added a focus on how important a healthy diet and exercise are.
The girls loved the setup of the theater with it’s colorful murals, book corner, and dress up areas. The girls were quick to dress up as chefs and get to work on sandwiches for me. The staff did a wonderful job of interacting with them and then guiding them to the stage area for the show. The show with the help of the interactive Toucan puppet does a wonderful job of involving the kids with games, songs, and dance. I cracked up when I watched them all exercise together. The girls did an awesome job of answering all the healthy food questions correctly, even identifying cantaloupe as their favorite food. Of course they spoiled it by standing up after the show and yelling “Mom, I was good! Can we go to Old McDonald’s now?” But after that embarrassing moment they did tell their dad about healthy foods that night so I am considering it a win.
The prefect time to check it out is this weekend when they are having a family fun day. On Saturday from 10am to 4pm the theater will be hosting kids of all ages at Laclede’s Landing. The free event includes fun and games, entertainment, face painting, a balloon artist and more. There will be meet and greets with Tooth Wizard and friends Buzz Lightyear, Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Square Pants, and Elmo. If you want to meet the characters be sure to get there before 1pm. The first 500 kids under 12 will receive a special gift. The event is also a can drive for Operation backpack. Bring a healthy canned food donation to help out. For more details on Family Fun Day to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening check out the Delta Dental Health Theater website.
Want to go another time? the shows run Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 3pm. Admission is $1 a person. You can call or email ahead of time for reservations at 314.241.7391 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Get in on the fun now by checking out the theater website, following Youcan the Toucan on Twitter, and liking the theater Facebook page. If you need a place for lunch it’s in the same building as the Old Spaghetti Factory and the area is a hop, skip, and a jump from the Arch. Plus kids will get a kick out of the old timey cobblestone streets. Plan some time just to walk around and explore the area.
