CoMO Sports: The Bruin Boom

Columbia, MO. A place where winning is done. The Missouri Tigers get the publicity. The Columbia College Cougars get the wins. But the championships are being collected in haste at Rock Bridge High School.

The Rock Bridge Bruins Boys Golf Team has won three out of the last four Missouri State Championships.

If you’re a Hickman-grad, or the proud parent of a Kewpie.. You might want to click over to something else. This little piece is Green & Gold dominant.

Rock Bridge just wins. All the time.

This post is focused on ONLY the last four years.

The Baseball team went to the Final Four for the first time in 2009. Boys AND Girls Soccer went to the Final Four in 2010. The Boys Basketball team advanced to the Final Four in 2009 & 2011. The Boys Cross Country team finished 2nd in the state last year. The Girls Golf team placed 4th in State a year ago.

That’s just a list of the “near-misses” for Rock Bridge in the last four years.

The Rock Bridge Boys Tennis team just won another state title yesterday, defeating LaFayette 5-3. It’s the third time in the last four years that the Bruins have been crowned the Tennis Kings Of Missouri. They won the title in 2008 and 2010, as well.

Girls Tennis won the school’s SIXTH state title last year.

Boys Golf finished 2nd in the state in 2010, and came right back to WIN the state title this year. Their first championship in 14 years. Girls Basketball won the MSHSAA State Championship in 2009.

Of course, you have to give a ton of credit to the boys and girls of Rock Bridge High School. But also, the coaches have done a fabulous job of motivating, supporting, and improving their student-athletes over the years. So much so, that they have coached those kids to pinnacle of success in high school athletics.

That certainly gives the parents of Bruin athletes plenty to cheer about. Speaking of cheering for the Bruins…

The “Bruin Girls”, the Rock Bridge Dance Team won the 2010 NDA National Championship. Yes, they were the best in America.

How about that Carl Edwards? Leading money-winner in NASCAR and the current Sprint Cup points leader. A former Bruin.

I’m telling ya. Rock Bridge just wins. All the time.

  1. Unfortunately this was not always the case. We came up short against Webb City in state finals of football (1993 and 1994). Freaking Grant Wistrom.

  2. Jet Roberts says:

I had the new Father Tolton High School Athletic Director Chad Masters on “The Closers” on Wednesday, and we talked about those RB teams… he mentioned the same thing.. haha

  3. Remember him well, and fondly. His nickname was “Mad Chasters” due to his rather volatile temper. Sorry I missed the show.

  4. Jet Roberts says:

We talked about his days with the Bruins and later went on to assist under Coach Erle Bennett at Centralia and then Ted LePage at Jefferson City. All he’s ever done is win, it seems!
