CoMo Tech: Zach Paul

@WeatherZach Mugshot

Who are you?

Zach Paul, Meteorologist for KRCG-TV and KJLU-FM.

What do you do for money?

I tell fortunes … with a concentration on the weather …

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy BBQ’s, Wakebording, Storm Chasing, and Traveling

I would characterize my relationship with technology as:

Love/Hate.  I love it and it hates me.  But for some reason we get along really well.

Smart or dumb phone? What kind? If smart, what are the three apps you use most?

I just upgraded my phone to the new T-Mobile G2X.  It has Tegra 2 dual processors and is super fast, like Jimmy John’s freaky fast!  I really love the Android platform and have used it going on 2 years now.  The 3 apps that I use most include Twidroyd, Pykl3 (weather app), and Solitaire.  But Seesmic and my app are other favs.

Mac or PC or Other?

I started out as an all Mac guy but since my industry uses either PC or Linux/Unix I’ve quickly become a PC guy.  There is more fun software for weather on a PC vs a Mac.

I use twitter for …

As my news platform.  Yes I work in the news media, but in this day and age, if you want info on breaking news, you’ll get it on Twitter before finding it in the paper, radio or TV. I personally send out regular weather updates on Twitter with current conditions and a forecast for cities around Mid-MO.

I use facebook for …

work.  But it’s used in a similar fashion.. to relay the weather message.  I find that in times of severe weather I get more feedback and information from this outlet.  This is very helpful and at times crucial when there is ongoing severe weather.  There is obviously a lot more characters to use to pass along the information too.

Do you read any blogs? What are three of your favorites?

I’m not much of a blog guy but I do enjoy reading a few of them.  I have my Google Reader set up to look for new ones.  I follow most of the bloggers in CoMO but the 3 that I follow on a regular basis:  Capturing CoMO, Show Me Eats, and Building International Coalitions Through Beer and Pavement.  I was recently selected by NASA to attend the STS134 launch and since then I’ve found a blog that is about Science and Food and has some fun experiments with both.  Stay at home moms, science teachers and just the nerdy types should check this one out  it’s called The Kitchen Pantry Scientist.

Go-to menu item and restaurant in CoMo?

Recently it’s been Bleu’s Cobb Salad or the Scallops, but you really can’t go wrong with anything on that menu.  For more casual I still like the 63 Diner north of town and their chili mac.

Complete this sentence: Archers of Loaf is/are:

Medieval bread launchers?

Friends are visiting from out-of-town. You’re for-sure taking them to:

The obvious answer is Shakespeare’s and yes you are correct, but I also throw in Heidelberg and the A-Frame.

My second-favorite city/town/hamlet/state/country/province in the world is:

Denver and Chicago almost neck and neck.

Thanks, Zach!
