Thanks to a 90 degree heat wave in May and a broken air conditioner my family and I found ourselves staying at the new Holiday Inn East on a Tuesday night. My kids thought they were rockstars, staying in a hotel on a school night. I love to eat at hotel restaurants when we travel and even though the hotel is 2 minutes from our house I was looking forward to checking out Kem’s Restaurant rather than cooking for everyone.
I was even more pleased when I found out that kids eat FREE in the restaurant with a paying adult.
The restaurant is casual and has individual tvs at every booth. Make sure to read the quotes stenciled on the walls (my favorite is the one about “worry”) The menu is simple American fare; pretty standard to please most but it could use a little more variety.
The kids loved their meals, the usual for both (mac and cheese with a cute fruit side served in a parfait cup; and chicken strips with crispy seasoned french fries) and my mushroom swiss burger and salad hit the spot.
I would have preferred to have the choice of how my burger was cooked (it was a little overdone for my taste) but I was still pleased with it. My husband was a little more critical of his cheese steak sandwich, calling it just “ok.” The food at Kem’s was good, but just “good;” exactly what you’d expect from a restaurant trying to please as many different types of travelers that should happen down I-70. With all the great restaurant choices in CoMO, Kem’s may have to up the game a bit if it wants to lure the local.
The prices are actually a little more reasonable than what you’d expect from a hotel restaurant-salads and sandwiches mostly in the range of $8-11, entrees average about $15-18. The kids eat free promo was a bonus that we actually took advantage of the next morning at breakfast as well, and service was good and attentive both times.
The restaurant serves breakfast and dinner and is located inside the Holiday Inn East at Lake of the Woods Road exit off of I-70, near Ashley Furniture Homestore.
