Environment Canada fog advisory in Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park

Environment Canada is warning that visibility could be reduced to “near zero,” in some places due to dense fog patches until at least noon.

In a fog advisory that extends through Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, and beyond, the weather agency said “some areas will likely see fog redevelop once again tonight.”

Environment Canada Meteorologist Heather Rombough tells HeartlandNews the fog has implications for visibility.

“You definitely need to be a little bit more cautious on the roads, definitely make sure your lights are on. The days are pretty short right now, so hopefully when it's dark you [already] have them on, but the fog adds an extra level of reduced visibility.” Rombough said.

Rombough said it is a “a relatively stagnant pattern. There's a lot of moisture pooling at the surface so we've got a pretty good area of fog.”

The weather agency says if visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
